  Mount Hope History
There has been no stronger brand name in the American processing industries than Mount Hope. Since its inception in 1941, Mount Hope has been building the sheet and web control systems that produce a smooth product and efficient production line, and it remains the most respected name in bowed roll technology worldwide.

In the early 1940's Mount Hope engineers focused on weft straighteners and cloth guiding systems for the New England textile industries. By 1944, we had an impressive line of swing guiders, guider stands, and overhead sheave and tension squeezers that included 33 patents. Mount Hope continues to bring innovative ideas to the textile industries.

In 1945 Mount Hope designed, built and patented the first bowed roll in North America. The company focused on its technological advantage in bowed roll design and expanded its sales organization to cover most of the United States. It also created an effective organization to market its revolutionary products in Europe.

In 1950, Mount Hope expanded with a new facility in Massachusetts, and in 1955 an additional operation was established in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is the company's main production facility today. Mount Hope bowed rolls expanded beyond the shores of North America in 1958, when the company formed an alliance with a Swiss company. The efficiency of the bowed roll and the reputation of Mount Hope expertise lead to continued expansion throughout the United States and Canada during the 1970s.

In the 1980s and '90s the acceleration of processing line speed, particularly in the paper industry, created demand for bigger, faster and more reliable bowed rolls. Mount Hope engineers responded with innovations such as the METROL with metal spools that stand up to higher temperatures, the VARI-BOW - which allows the operator to adjust the bow for optimum performance, and the MULTI-BOW that provides the ultimate bow control with an automatic on-the-fly adjustment system. Mount Hope introduced the one-piece bowed roll body for performance & economy in 2004.

BTR Paper Technology Group, now Xerium Technologies, Inc., acquired Mount Hope and sister company Stowe Woodward in 1976. The company went on to acquire 12 other companies and become a global leader in the manufacturing of rolls, clothing and other consumable products used in the paper making industry.

Mount Hope, as an integral part of the global technology group Xerium Technologies, Inc., which includes Stowe Woodward, Huyck, Weavexx, and Wangner, is uniquely positioned as the premier solution provider for the global paper industry.
